What goes on at a session?
At the start of the session, I like to spend time getting to know my clients, learning about them, their style and their stories. With children, I like to play games and joke to make it fun for them. I want to capture your natural and true spirit, so I often step back and let an engaged couple tell each other inside jokes, or wait for a child to kiss his baby sister-just the right moments to hit click on my camera.
When should I book my maternity/newborn session?
28-32 weeks is a great time to have your portraits taken. At this point, mom-to-be has a nicely pronounced belly and is still comfortable enough to move around to get versatile shots.
Newborn sessions are scheduled before 2 weeks of age. However, I recommend they be brought in before 10 days. Newborns this young are more likely to "curl up" and remain sleepy and more tolerant of being posed and moved around during the session.
Where do sessions take place and how long do they last?
Because I am a natural light photographer, sessions (with the exception of some maternity and newborns) will take place outdoors, on location. This can be a park, field, alley, beach... just about anywhere! Some locations charge a fee and that will be included in your session when scheduled. Sessions outside the 25 mile radius of zip 92880 are subject to a travel fee.
Sessions will last anywhere from 1-3 hours. Newborn sessions often run long due to the nature and frequent nurturing of the infant, expect a minimum of 2 hours.
What is included in the fee?
Through 2010, I am offering special discounts. Please contact me for further information.
When and how will I get my photos?
A sneak peak of your session will be posted on my blog approximately 3 days after your session. An online gallery of 20-30 images will be posted approximately 7-10 days after the session and remain open for approximately one week. During this time you will place your order.
What should I wear?
Recommended:
Newborns- All natural is best. I have a variety of props including hats, covers, headbands, wraps and blankets available for use during the session.
Maternity- Your style really comes into play here. Depending on your type of session (indoor, outdoors, classic or sexy), you will want to choose an outfit to fit your session type and make you feel as beautiful as you are. Pre-pregnancy jeans look great in photos- don't worry if they don't button, we will fold them down. Form-fitting tops, tanks, long flowing skirts that sit just under the belly, area also great choices. Choose clothing that really accentuates the belly, it is a maternity session after all!
Children-This will depend on age and session location, but keep bright, bold colors in mind! Layering looks great as well.
Family- Choose clothing with a similar style and colors. You don't need to match from head to toe.
This is your chance to bring out your unique style. Be comfortable in what you wear. Accessories such as scarves, jewelry, etc add a special touch to outfits. Choose clothing such as shirts without brand names across them.
Clothing changes are allowed during the session. Keep it simple, keep it fun, keep it you!
